Application Deadline: Dec 15, 2020
Start Date: June 2021
The Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network (SBWCN) is a fast-growing wildlife rehabilitation center in Goleta, CA. SBWCN is seeking a veterinary intern for a year-long period to run from June of 2021 through May of 2022. The intern will participate in all aspects of medical care at SBWCN, including initial triage and examination, diagnostics, treatment, surgery, and pre-release evaluations. SBWCN receives over 4,000 animals a year of a wide variety of local species, including many songbirds, aquatic birds, raptors, mammals, reptiles, and occasionally amphibians. SBWCN is also breaking ground soon on a large new hospital building that is planned to be completed in 2022. The intern will be a vital part of the ongoing growth of the facility and organization during continued expansion of the medical side. The intern will work directly with the staff veterinarian initially, with increased independence during the course of the internship as the intern’s comfort and experience levels grow.
Candidates should have an interest in pursuing a career in wildlife rehabilitation medicine or a similar path and should be able to work with a wide variety of people in an often fast-paced environment. Candidates must possess a DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree and be able to complete the CA State Licensure examinations within 2 weeks of starting the internship.
