NJ – Assistant Wildlife Health Biologist Position (Part-time)

Overview: The Office of Fish & Wildlife Health & Forensics is searching for a part-time employee to assist with animal disease investigations, pathogen surveillance, and research in the office. The position will include working in two field laboratories, the Pequest Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory and the Clinton Wildlife Pathology Laboratory. Some work is expected to occur in the Animal Health Diagnostic Lab located in Ewing, NJ. This position will work with a Wildlife Veterinarian and Research Scientist to survey fish and wildlife health in the state. This is a 900-hour hourly position and working hours are expected to be between Monday and Friday, though working hours are negotiable to fit either a parttime or full-time schedule.

Duties: The employee is expected to assist in field and laboratory activities in the Office of Fish and Wildlife Health and Forensics. Projects include terrestrial wildlife health, aquatic animal health surveillance in marine and freshwater fish populations, and shellfish disease surveillance. Projects are dependent on program needs. Duties will include sample collection from a variety of animals, molecular biology processing (extraction, PCR and preparing samples for sequence analysis), and processing samples for histology. It is encouraged to assist with the preparation of reports and publications in the office.
