The Disease Investigations group at San Diego zoo Conservation Science has an opening for the Jane and Marshall Steel Fellowship. The available position is a 1-year, full-time fellowship open to veterinary anatomic pathologists interested in gaining diagnostic experience in non-domestic species, as well as to researchers seeking post-doctoral opportunities in conservation science.
Fellows will be a part of a team of veterinary pathologists and researchers with expertise in epidemiology, infectious diseases, toxicology, and molecular biology.
Diagnostic Pathology Fellows Qualifications:
- DVM or equivalent degree
- At least two years of formal pathology residency training from a qualifying program
- ACVP certification is preferred
The fellowship offers unique opportunities for development of diagnostic skills in anatomic and clinical pathology of nondomestic species. Fellows participate in the necropsy, biopsy, and cytology services under the supervision and instruction of five ACVP-certified pathologists. Case material includes a wide variety of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates derived from the collections of the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and from collaborative field conservation programs.
