Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a Part-Time Endocrine Processing Technician to work in the Reproduction department. This position reports directly to the Lead Scientist and Lead Endocrine Technician overseeing grant activities. This position is grant funded and the duration of this position is solely related to the acquisition of funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Assist in preparing a variety of biological specimens (urine, feces, serum) for endocrine analysis.
- Extract samples for hormone analysis research and perform creatinine assays for projects funded by IMLS.
- Take inventory of incoming samples and processing samples according to established research protocols.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be in possession or currently in the process of obtaining a Bachelors degree in the biological sciences field.
- Candidates with experience in laboratory techniques are preferred.
- Must have experience working with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with assay methodology is a plus.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Must be prompt and consistent in attendance.
- Must be detail oriented, follow through on assignment timelines, and communicate in an effective manner.
