Wildlife researchers and veterinarians are taking extra precautions to protect highly endangered black-footed ferrets, due to the fact that they are likely susceptible to the virus that causes COVID-19.

A study published in April 2020 found that SARS-CoV-2 replicates poorly in dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks, but domestic ferrets and cats are permissive to infection.
