Application Deadline: August 14, 2020
Duties will include, but are not limited to: coordination with regional taxidermists and meat processors to obtain and process CWD samples from hunter-harvested deer; assist regional MDC staff with CWD sample collection efforts; preparing CWD samples for laboratory submission; assist with CWD-related data management; inventory management, distribution and tracking of CWD sampling supplies; collection of tissue samples from hunter-harvested, road-killed, and sick deer for CWD testing; assist with post-season targeted harvest operations.
Additional duties will occasionally include: providing training to taxidermists, meat processors and other non-MDC cooperators; delivering supplies and picking up CWD samples in the region; assemble and distribute informative materials for landowners within the CWD management zones; provide training for MDC staff on CWD sample and data collection; responding to reports of sick/dead animals; participate in animal necropsies and other wildlife disease surveillance activities. Assist other Science Branch Programs as needed and other duties as required. Desired start date is August 16, 2020, but this is negotiable.
A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Wildlife Management or related biological sciences degree is desired, but not required.
