Temporal Patterns in Admission of Eastern Box Turtles at a North Carolina Wildlife Clinic as a Reflection of Climate

Ready, Z. C., Chen, E. P., & Lewbart, G. A. (2020). TEMPORAL PATTERNS IN ADMISSION OF EASTERN BOX TURTLES (TERRAPENE CAROLINA CAROLINA) AT A NORTH CAROLINA WILDLIFE CLINIC AS A REFLECTION OF CLIMATE. Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine51(2), 363-370.

Study Highlights:

The most common presenting complaint was vehicular trauma.

Annual peak temperature and the annual timing of box turtle admission have shifted significantly.

Timing of admission shifted 18 days earlier between pre- and post-2006 years, supporting the hypothesis that box turtle activity patterns are shifting, potentially related to climate.
